A female doctor measures the height of a girl in a women and children's health clinic in Gaza City. A combination of the continuing economic blockade on Gaza by Israel, dwindling fresh water supplies, substandard sewerage systems and overcrowding has created fertile ground for a range of serious health issues across Gaza. Here children are particularly vulnerable to both physical and psychological ailments. A 2012 report by Save the Children and Medical Aid for Palestinians has stated that 10% of children in Gaza under the age of 5 suffer from stunted growth caused by malnutrition. It also stated 58.6% of school children suffer from anaemia (caused by iron deficiency).
